To Nap Or Not To Nap? That Is The Question

Nap TimeThe Babe is now 2 and a half years old. She decided three months ago that she was a “baby big girl” and does not need to nap in the afternoon. I beg to differ.

The problem is that she is fine till about five in the evening and then all hell breaks loose. You know, the time when I am making dinner, doing homework with The Boss and listening to The Big Guy discuss the world turning events that unfolded during his day. Like that conversation can’t wait till later in the night!

The Babe falls to the ground directly under my feet, kicking and screaming till I pick her up and give her my undivided attention. If I put her down, she is asleep. Oh hell no!! I know she doesn’t think she is taking a little nappie poo at five fifteen.

When I force her to take a nap during the day then my night is shot. It will be ten o’clock before I get her to sleep which means no time for mommy. When she doesn’t lay down my evening is a living nightmare.

Oh, what to do? Which is the lesser of two evils?

OMG! That is soooooo funny! My daughter is almost the same age and we have the same problem. We try to run her ragged all day before her nap. It just seems to be pure luck, i guess! LOL if you find something that works, please share!

I feel your pain! Bridget, 19 months, likes to be cuddled around 4 - ish, but I know if I let her sleep for more than 20 minutes or so, there is no way I am getting her to bed before 8 or 9. Jacob, who is 5, still has meltdowns starting around 3 and would REALLy benefit from an early afternoon nap. To tell you the truth, I would rather deal with the tantrums than a kid who won’t go to bed at night. By 8 or 9 pm, i am so tired myself I don’t want to deal with a hyper kid.

I know what you mean… I remember us having that problem with my nephew Jackson. with my 21 month old I have started letting her have an hour nap in the car at noon. When she’s in the car, she’ll fall asleep at noon but at home it takes until almost 2 and then it makes a late night.
