Can Books Teach Kids About Emotions?

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Have you ever wondered how to help your child identify and talk about the emotions they are feeling? As a parent, I encourage my kids to share what they are feeling with my husband and myself. It can be a hard concept, how to feel and appropriately react.

There is a series of books that help educate kids how to identify and handle their emotions. “The Way I Feel” books, written by Cornelia Maude Spelman, are excellent additions to any child’s library. The series of books explore everything from divorce and sadness to caring and feeling good about ones self. Check them out! They have helped all three of my girls relate their emotions to everyday activities.

Are Pottery Barn Prices Out Of Your Budget?

Friday, February 16th, 2007

We discovered a new line of bed linens, crates, bins, rugs and bedroom doo dads at Target this past weekend. With three kids, the cost of doing an overhaul on the bedrooms is overwhelming. As we were walking through the store, my older two girls saw beds sets that they absolutely loved, including a sweet Surf Girl Quilt, and the price made me love them even more. They were well under $50 for sheets, shams and comforter. The patterns and colors looked like they came right out of the Pottery Barn catalog! Target Surf Girl

The line is called, DYR, which is short for Do Your Room. I ended up doing my mudroom over as well with their benches, shoe bins and coat hooks. Everyone that has visited has made the same comment with a frown, “I wish I could afford to order from Pottery Barn.” I just laugh. Sometimes if you search, you really can get the same look for much less.

Soft-soled Baby Shoes vs. Traditional Baby Shoes.

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Having three daughters within 3 years, I have bought more than my fair share of shoes. I discovered an alternative to the traditional hard bootie shoe when my oldest, now 6, was an infant.

Robeez Pink and Purple Butterfly ShoesWe recieved a pair of pink and purple Robeez as a gift from a friend. When I first opened the shoes, I thought how unpractical. I could not have been more wrong. My kids have wide, and I mean wide, feet. The shoes fit perfectly, they were strechy, durable and most of all cute! I was able to pass the shoes through all 3 of my daughters. I have gotten countless compliments on the shoes over the years and I always give them as a baby gift!

Isabooties soft-soled shoesSince we first found Robeez, there have been many new companies designing solf-soled shoes, which is wonderful! We here at Gaga For Lulu are proud to have Isabubu Designs, the creator of Isabooties™, as a sponsor. Instead of leather, Isabooties™ are crafted from Ultrasuede®, a super-soft and breathable fabric. And unlike the styles of other soft-soled baby shoes, IsaBooties™ combine bold color block designs with distinctive European ribbon to create a fresh new look in soft-soled baby shoes.

Huge Britax Sale Going On At BabyAge.com

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Britaz Car SeatIf you are in need of a car seat, look no further. One of our sponsors, BabyAge.com, is having a huge President’s Day Sale on Britax products. It is very rare that you see Britax on sale, and this deal is too good to pass up.

Check out this excerpt from a Britax Marathon review on About.com’s Baby Products section:

I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with a car seat! I had heard other parents rave about their Britax seats for years before I splurged and got one for my daughter. She immediately took to the new seat, as well, even wanting to sleep inside the Marathon the first night we had it. One of the nicest features of the Britax Marathon car seat is the built-in lock-off clips that keep the car seat installed tightly when using traditional seatbelt routing. Britax has also made it very easy to secure babies in the Marathon. The harness straps adjust quickly and effortlessly, and the harness height is simple to change, but you must uninstall the car seat to adjust harness height in the forward-facing position. While the harness straps on many car seats twist after a few uses, Britax Marathon straps are designed to stay smooth, and they feature a “floating HUGS” system that distributes forces during a crash. The HUGS system also reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip. Marathon is a large car seat, and some small car owners may have trouble with proper installations, particularly rear-facing, so check the fit before purchasing. It appears that Britax has redesigned the Marathon car seat base to better accommodate small cars, though. The base makes for easy recline adjustments when rear-facing, too, by simply pulling a handle. Plush covers and thick padding provides a comfy ride for baby, and the covers are available in many patterns to suit any taste.

The Best Hand-Me-Down Brand In Our Household

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Zutano baby and kids clothesHaving 3 girls in 4 years can be real tough, but one thing that helps is that all the clothes that were bought for the oldest can be passed down and still be in style. Many don’t make it through all three. However, the one brand that has lasted the best is Zutano.

We just started dressing our youngest in some outfits and even after 4 years, they look as fresh as they did when we bought them.
